wanting to be forgiven by someone who will not forgive you

Freedom Before the Apology Arrives

The house is quiet now, but the room inside you where you wait for their forgiveness is loud. You are rehearsing words they will not hear, carrying a debt they refuse to cancel.

There was a woman caught in the act, surrounded by stones and accusers, waiting for a verdict that would end her. The light bent down and wrote in the dust, then stood and said: neither do I condemn you.

The verdict came before the apology. The freedom came before the change.

You cannot force another heart to open. You cannot make them see what you see.

But the light that lives inside you has already spoken your name. It does not wait for their permission to call you beloved.

The silence of the other person is not the final word.
