The Door Unlocking From The Inside
The house is quiet now, and the screen has gone dark, leaving you alone with the noise you've been running from all day. In the gathering dark, the silence feels less like peace and more like an accusation, forcing you to hear the voice you've been trying to drown out.
But notice how the light does not speak in a shout to compete with your fear; it waits in the stillness like a friend who has nothing to prove. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off—he did not wait for the speech, the apology, or the cleanup; he ran.
Before you could explain yourself, before you could promise to do better, he was already there, arms open, kissing the dirt on your face. The voice you are afraid to hear is not the one condemning you; it is the one calling you by name, inviting you to sit down and eat.
The terror of the silence is just the sound of the door unlocking from the inside.
