The Light Sits in the Silence
The house is quiet enough to hear the refrigerator hum. You reach for the second mug before remembering—no one else is coming in.
The habit is heavier than the ceramic. The light does not scold you for the reach.
It sits with you in the silence of the unneeded cup. There was a man born blind, and the disciples asked whose sin caused it.
The light said: neither. Sometimes the emptiness is not a punishment.
It is just the space where the works of God might be displayed. You are not alone because the house is empty.
You are accompanied by the One who sees you in the dark and calls it holy. The second mug stays in the cupboard.
The first one is enough.
