You Do Not Have to Earn Exhale
The door clicks shut. The lock slides home.
And in that sudden silence, your shoulders drop three inches, the mask you wore all day finally cracking against the frame. You stop breathing because the performance is over, and the exhaustion of being 'okay' rushes in to fill the space where the air used to be.
This is the middle of the day, the long stretch where the light feels buried under the dust of routine. But listen — the light does not need your energy to survive.
It is not a task you must complete before you can rest. There is a peace that does not depend on your ability to hold it together.
The light is already there, in the quiet of the hallway, in the stillness of your lungs. It is the ground beneath your feet when you feel like you are falling.
You do not have to earn the right to exhale.
