the terror of looking in the mirror and not recognizing the person staring back

The Light Behind the Mask

The day is finally done, and the armor you wore for twelve hours is heavy on your shoulders. You take it off, piece by piece, until you are left standing in the quiet, facing the glass.

And for a moment, the face looking back feels like a stranger's — worn thin by the performance, hollowed out by the pretending. You do not recognize the eyes staring back because they have been hiding the light all day.

But listen — the darkness has not overcome it. That light was there before you put on the mask, and it is still there now that you have taken it off.

It does not need your face to be perfect to shine. It only needs you to stop hiding.

The stranger in the mirror is not who you are; they are just who you had to be to get through the day. You are the light that sees them, and loves them, anyway.
