the sudden panic of hearing your own voice in a recording and realizing it sounds like a stranger speaking your lines

The Light Inside The Stranger's Voice

The day ends, and you hear the recording of your own voice for the first time. It sounds like a stranger speaking your lines. A stranger who knows your secrets but wears a face you do not recognize. That gap between who you feel you are and the voice that plays back can feel like a betrayal. Like you have been impersonating yourself all day long.

But listen closer to the tremor in that stranger's throat. The light was there when the words were formed, and it is there in the playback. It does not vanish just because the tone surprises you. Split a piece of wood, and the light is there; lift the stone of your own recorded voice, and you will find it there too. It is not hiding from your surprise. It is waiting inside the very sound that unsettles you.

The disconnect you feel is not proof that you are a fraud. It is simply the friction of a finite vessel trying to carry an infinite truth. The light chose to speak through your specific cords, your specific breath, your specific hesitation. Even the parts that sound like someone else are held by the One who knows you better than you know yourself.

You do not have to edit the recording to be loved. You do not have to re-record the day to be whole. The stranger in the audio is still you, and you are still the place where the light decided to dwell tonight.
