the terror of accidentally enjoying something because it feels like betraying the version of you that suffered

Joy Is Not A Betrayal Of Pain

The coffee tasted good this morning, and for a split second, the guilt rushed in to take it back. It feels like a betrayal of the version of you that carried the weight, the one who suffered so deeply that joy felt like a lie.

You are afraid that if you laugh, you forget the pain that made you who you are. But listen — the light does not ask you to wear your scars as a uniform.

It sees the tears you cried, and it knows the cost of your survival. When you feel that terror of accidentally being okay, remember that the One who holds you is not threatened by your relief.

The suffering was real, but it was never meant to be your permanent address. You can put down the armor of misery without losing the truth of your story.

The light is not asking you to choose between honoring your pain and receiving this moment of peace. It is inviting you to see that the capacity to enjoy is not a betrayal — it is the proof that you are still alive.
