the inability to let go and enjoy the good things because you are bracing for the moment they vanish

The Gift Already Given

The coffee is warm in your hands, but you are already scanning the horizon for the storm. You hold the good thing loosely, fingers curled tight around the possibility of its end, bracing for the vanishing before it has even fully arrived.

What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it because you are too busy guarding against the loss. The light does not ask you to predict the future; it asks you to see the present.

Neither do I condemn you for the fear that makes you grip so tightly. Go now.

The moment is not a trap waiting to snap; it is a gift already given.
