the split second in the grocery store aisle when someone asks how you are and your mouth forms the word 'fine' before your brain has decided to lie

The Light Sees Behind Your Mask

The cart is heavy. The fluorescent lights hum that familiar, flat song.

Someone asks how you are, and before your brain has even formed the truth, your mouth has already said 'fine.' It happens so fast. A reflex.

A shield sliding into place before you even know you're under attack. You walk away feeling the gap widen — the distance between the face you showed and the heart you're carrying.

But the light sees behind the mask. It saw the flinch.

It heard the lie you told to survive the aisle. And it does not turn away.

It waits for you to come home, take the mask off, and breathe. The light is not fooled by your performance.

It is waiting for your presence.
