staring at your own reflection in the rearview mirror and not recognizing the eyes looking back

You Are the Light Behind the Glass

The car is stopped. The engine is off.

And in the rearview mirror, the face staring back feels like a stranger's. You do not recognize the eyes looking at you.

They look tired. They look old.

They look like they have seen too much and forgotten who they are. This is the bottom.

The moment when the silence is so loud it drowns out your name. But listen — the darkness has not overcome it.

The light is still there, even when you cannot see it in the glass. It was there before the grief carved these lines.

It is there now, beneath the fatigue. You are not the reflection.

You are the light that makes the reflection visible. The face may change.

The eyes may dim. But the source behind them cannot be broken.

Breathe. The night is deep, but the light is deeper.

You are not lost; you are just waiting for the dawn to show you what was always there.
