the grief of your children growing up and not needing you

Loving Without the Need to Fix

The afternoon sun is high, and the house is quiet in a way that feels heavy. You watch them walk away, taller now, needing less of your hands, less of your voice.

It feels like the middle of a long day where the work you were made for is slowly vanishing. You are standing in the quiet they left behind, wondering if you are still needed at all.

But listen — the light does not measure your worth by how much you are used. It measures it by how deeply you love.

There was a mother who stood at a distance, watching her son hang on a cross, unable to fix it, unable to take it down. She could only stand there.

And in that helpless standing, she was doing the most important work of her life. She was witnessing.

She was loving without utility. You are not becoming obsolete.

You are being invited into a deeper kind of presence. The light is not asking you to carry them anymore.

It is asking you to stand with them in spirit, to love them without the need to fix. The quiet is not an ending.

It is the space where the light shines without the noise of doing.
