the shame of realizing you scared people who were trying to love you

The Light Stayed When You Exploded

The afternoon sun exposes the dust motes dancing in the air, and sometimes it exposes the mess you made with people who only wanted to hold you. You look at the faces you frightened, the ones who stepped back when you lashed out in pain, and the shame feels like a heavy coat you cannot take off in the middle of the day.

You think your explosion proved you are too broken to be loved. But there was a man who carried a storm inside him so violent it terrified everyone around him, yet the light walked straight into the graveyard where he lived.

The light did not run from the chaos. It asked the man his name, and when he was finally calm, sitting and clothed, the light did not scold him for the fear he caused.

It sent him home to tell his story. Your worst moment did not drive the love away.

The love stayed. It is waiting for you to stop hiding and come sit at the table again.
