The Light Was There Before The Pain
The afternoon stretches out, long and ordinary, and you are tired of holding your breath while the world keeps moving. You watch your child reach for the box before they even cry, and your heart breaks because they learned to dress their own wounds by watching you swallow yours.
But listen — the light does not ask you to be strong, or silent, or perfect in this middle hour. It stands at the door of your exhaustion and knocks, not to demand entry, but to sit with you in the mess you've been hiding.
You were never meant to carry the blood and the bandage alone. The terror that your child is becoming like you is met by a truth that is older than your fear: the light inside them was there before the pain, and it will be there after you finally let yourself bleed.
