the guilt of sleeping through the night while they cannot

The Light Runs Before You Rest

The afternoon stretches out, a long middle where the weight of yesterday's wakefulness presses down while the world moves on. It feels unfair that others slept soundly while you kept watch in the dark, carrying a guilt that says you should have been able to rest.

But the light does not measure your worth by your exhaustion or your ability to shut your eyes. There is a father who saw his son coming home from a long way off — he did not wait for the boy to clean up or fix his mistakes.

He ran. Before the apology, before the speech — he ran.

The light runs toward you right now, not because you slept, but because you are here. You do not need to earn the right to be held by closing your eyes.

The kingdom grows while you sleep or while you stay awake, all by itself, without your forcing it. Rest is not a task you failed; it is a gift that waits when you are ready.

The light is not disappointed in your weary eyes.
