The Light Beneath the Mask
The afternoon light hits the glass, and for a second, you do not recognize the face staring back. The eyes belong to the character you have been playing since morning—the one who smiles when asked, the one who says 'I'm fine' without flinching.
You built this mask to survive the day, but now it feels like it has fused to your skin. You are tired of performing a life you are not living.
But listen—beneath the performance, beneath the role you accepted to get through the hours, there is a light that never put on a costume. It does not know how to pretend.
It was there before you learned to smile for the crowd, and it remains when the act drops. You do not need to fix the character or polish the mask.
You only need to remember that the light inside you is not part of the show. It is the only thing in the room that is real.
