re-reading your own sent messages to count how many times you apologized for things that weren't your fault

Stop Shrinking To Fit The Afternoon

It is the middle of the day, and the screen is glowing with the evidence of your shrinking. You are scrolling back, counting the times you said 'I'm sorry' for things that were never your fault.

Apologizing for taking up space. For having a need.

For existing in the room. The light does not ask you to make yourself smaller to fit inside the afternoon.

It sees the weight of words that were never yours to carry. You have been trying to smooth over rough edges that belong to other people.

Stop counting. Stop shrinking.

The truth that lives inside you knows you did nothing wrong. You are allowed to take up the space you occupy.
