The Pain Underneath the Substance

For the person who got sober and discovered the wound the substance was covering. The trauma. The abuse. The grief. The loneliness that predates the first drink or hit or click. The addiction was a bandage on something nobody knew was bleeding and now the bandage is off and the wound is raw and the air stings.
